Overview
This BBA offered by Entrepreneurship Institute of
Australia (EIA) is designed for those who want to be the best prepared in their own profession as entrepreneurs in their own right or as corporate intrapreneurs. The BBA course aims to develop in participants the ability to review, extend and apply the knowledge and techniques learnt from a range of sources to real entrepreneurial organisational situations. Above that, however, is to build capacity for self-directed and lifelong learning so as to instill confidence to pursue a higher level of studies in the future.
ERC Institute (ERCI) and Entrepreneurship Institute Australia (EIA) combine
sound business fundamentals with action-oriented learning to increase the
speed and practicality of learning through entrepreneurial management
assignments.
Specifically aimed at fresh polytechnic graduates as well as working adults with limited work experience, the programme combines the convenience of directed reading, intensive workshops, and the interaction of participants and faculty. hedules and quick course completion.
Accreditation
EIA is accredited by the South Australian Government within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) which guarantees academic rigour and very high standards. The AQF provides a nationally consistent framework for all qualifications issued by higher education institutions including universities. EIA is based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Course Design and Content
The course covers 20 essential entrepreneurial knowledge tools in the modules shown below conducted in a modular course structure. Each module involves the presentation of a body of knowledge by faculty with substantial entrepreneurial and managerial experience and is completed within one month. The learning approach uses lectures, video presentations, case studies, group discussions, business games, role plays and directed reading.
Modules
Stage 1 Core Modules
Information and Communication This module develops skills in managing conflict and negotiations, facilitation skills with group problem solving and decision-making and the management of effective working relationships.
People I This module provides opportunities to develop skills in managing and developing teams, planning, organising and controlling work to effectively achieve goals and in establishing goals for performance measurement.
Operations I This module involves the development of efficient and effective operations in organisation through customer service, productivity, innovation and change.
Finance I This module provides an understanding of what is required for effective operational and financial performance reporting and budgeting and the importance of optimising financial performance through reducing costs and improving efficiency.
Marketing Principles and Practice The marketing project involves the establishment of operational strategies and tactics to meet the marketing objectives of an organisation.
Entrepreneurship This module enables participants to create environments that foster intrapreneurial, entrepreneurial and innovative cultures in organisations. It provides a tool for analysis of an organisation’s internal and external environments and the use of sound and creative concepts for forecasting possible future organisational and environmental states and associated opportunities and threats.
Stage 2 Core Modules
Leadership Issues Participants are encouraged to develop strategic leadership behaviours through self-awareness and self-management strategies to optimise achievement of goals and manage more effectively in conditions of change. Decision-making strategies that facilitates the taking of difficult decisions by leaders are also addressed in this course.
People II This module covers the recruitment, selection, induction, training and development of staff as well as the development of skills to effectively manage grievances, disputes and workplace issues.
Finance II Participants learn about the identification and application of financial management fundamentals in the operations of organisations. There is a maximising of financial returns to expenditure, and investment in operating and capital assets.
Strategic Management-Principles & Practice The purpose of this module is to develop the strategic thinking skills of participants through preparation of a strategic management project plan for the organisation.
Project Management Participants learn how to analyse and evaluate the advantages and problems with project management and develop effective strategies for its use in their organisation.
Stage 2 Specialisation Modules
Operations II Operational activities are examined with the intent of achieving effective and efficient management of operations, logistics, cultural diversity, risk and projects.
International Marketing The purpose of this module is to enable participants to identify and employ strategies and actions to effectively identify and capitalize on opportunities in overseas markets. It covers the identification and evaluations of business opportunities and the development of plans to access and service overseas business opportunities.
Stage 3 Core Modules
Ethics and Social Responsibility Participants are introduced to the concepts of corporate social responsibility and develop a code of business ethics for implementing in an organisation.
Contemporary Legal Issues The module helps participants identify contemporary legal issues that relate to their workplace, the potential impacts and what actions can be recommended.
Small Business Management The purpose of this module is to enable participants to identify and employ strategies and actions to effectively manage a small business. This module enables participants to know that challenge of owning and managing a small business, planning and organising a small business, selecting and leading its employees, marketing its goods and services, planning and controlling its finances, and providing present and future security for the business.
Integrated Project (I and II) This is a major consolidating module where participants use the knowledge they have gained to develop entrepreneurial projects for an organisation (which could be their own) and provide a detailed business plan for implementation of the projects.
Stage 3 Specialisation Modules
Creativity and Innovation The purpose of this module is to enable participants to identify and employ strategies and actions to enhance the creativity and innovation of organisations. The management of innovation within firms, new product development, and of research and development will also be addressed in the course.
Entrepreneurship Issues This module enables participants to evaluate trends in thinking about core entrepreneur leadership issues like mastering entrepreneurship, creating and launching the business venture, financing the new venture and managing growth and creating harvest options.
Delivery Mode
This programme is available on both full-time & part-time mode. The course consists of
20 modules and can be completed in 24 months.
Availability
March / June / September / December
Assessment
For each subject other than the Integrated Projects, participants will complete an assignment and an examination.
For each Integrated Project, the participant will complete an assignment compromising a project plan and a real-life entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial venture whereby skills gained during the specialised programme will be utilised to undertake a hands-on research with a new business enterprise or an existing workplace.
Entry Requirements
For admission into Year 1 of the BBA (Entrepreneurial Management) programme, applicants normally have:
- 2 passes in GCE ‘A’ level with a pass in GP at ‘AO’ level or at least a C6 for English as first language at ‘O’ level (or equivalent);
- 5 passes in GCE ‘O’ level including at least a C6 for English as first language (or equivalent) with at least 3 years of working experience
For admission into Year 1 of the BBA (Entrepreneurial Management) programme with credit transfer (up to a maximum of 9 module exemptions in year 1 and/ or year 2), applicants normally have:
- Diploma in Business Administration or any other business discipline from any of the local polytechnics (or equivalent)
- Access to a workplace or projects which could be the basis of their assignments and project
- Adequate proficiency in English, for example IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550 or English was the language of instruction during highest qualification. If students do not meet the mentioned English requirements, they are required to take English language course from ERCI and pass the EIA qualifying test.
