Diploma in Strategic Wealth Management


Overview

The Diploma in Strategic Wealth Management was developed to meet the increasing needs and demands for practical financial and investment skills across Asia as regional economies are showing sustained robust growth. Currently, neither local nor regional educational providers have the capacity to offer and meet this rising demand for practical financial and investment knowledge, and ERCI aims, in part, to satisfy this demand by delivering a practical quality diploma focusing on the innovative wealth creation, protection, and management strategies, skills and processes.

Main Objective of the Course

The aim of this course is to impart to students, various aspects pertinent, most up-to-date and relevant strategies and theories on the creation, protection and management of wealth. The Diploma in Strategic Wealth Management program develops a set of conceptual frameworks and analytical tools and applies these to particular investments and investment strategies chosen from a cross-section of companies, securities and institutional contexts. The other objective of the course is to provide savings and investment processes to enable students to advise all individuals to achieve better asset management skills and good financial habits and strategies.

The Diploma in Strategic Wealth Management enables the student working in the industry to attain the thinking skills, creative ability and technical knowledge needed to become professionals in their chosen field of finance and investments, taking into account the context of their work and the ever changing global environment. Students learn to be flexible and sensitive to the dynamic changes in investment trends, as well as the needs of the industry and their clients.
Participants who successfully completed the diploma will qualify for the Chartered Wealth Manager (CWM™) professional accreditation from the American Academy of Financial Management™ (AAFM).

Further, the programme itself is robust to provide a solid foundation for further academic study for students who are interested in pursuing higher level studies in investments, finance and/or wealth management.

Course Design & Content

This part-time course covers 6 essential subjects and takes place over a period of 9 months. With the exception of Financial Market Trading subject which lasts 2 months, each module takes place over a period of a month, comprising 50 hours per month. DSWM 901 High Net Worth Clientele Management
This subject aims to introduce you to the Wealth Management industry. It covers the industry overview and trends in the private banking business, compliance & regulation and an appreciation of the microeconomic impact on the business and client relationship management in the context of wealth management.

DSWM 902 Portfolio Construction & Management
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the investment process from constructing investment objectives and policies to asset allocation, security selection, revisions, monitoring and performance measurement and attribution for individual and institutional clients. The concept of risk and return, modern portfolio theory and market anomalies will be examined in great depths and students will be given ample opportunities to construct a portfolio using basic asset allocation tools, evaluate portfolio performance measurements and analyze the risk and return of the portfolio.

DSWM 903 Introduction to Alternative Investments
This subject covers portfolio strategies such as tactical asset allocation to re-balance a portfolio of financial assets. A detailed analysis of the various hedging strategies for equities and fixed income will also be discussed. The role of private equity, hedge funds and venture capitalist in wealth management will also be included. Further understanding of alternative assets such as commodities; precious metals, arts & paintings, stamps and insurance will be deliberated too.

DSWM 904 Risk Management Strategies
This subject focuses on the current role and the position of risk management practices within the wealth management industry. It will provide an understanding of the wealth management firms’ risk exposure and their approaches to measure and manage those risks. Topics will include the identification of market, credit, operational, legal and reputational risks on various types of financial products. Mitigation of risk and strategies deployed will be discussed concurrently with the identification of risk.

DSWM 905 Issues in Tax, Legal & Estate Planning
This subject will focus on asset ownership structures devised specifically to address the incidence of taxes and to manage estate protection and generation planning. It will identify and discuss the different categories of taxes in various countries that are relevant to the private investor and how these impact wealth accumulation and the ultimate wealth distribution in the context of generation planning.

DSWM 906 Financial Markets Trading
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the theory and practical use of popular financial derivatives in trading, including options, futures, equities, commodities and currencies. This course is designed for novice traders to gain trading experience as well as for experienced traders who need to refine their strategies. This course has both a theory and practical aspect. The practical aspect of this module, students will be given opportunities to practise and gain experience in trading using Internet-based trading simulators, and facilitators will simulate trading attributes which students are required to react to these conditions and carry out paper trading, and their performance tracked and evaluated.

Delivery Mode

This programme is available on both full-time & part-time mode. The course consists of 6 modules and can be completed in 9 months.

Assessment

Teaching, learning and assessment processes have been developed to ensure that students experience a variety of methods of learning and assessment. The programme is a combination of lecturers and tutorials and assessments are through, individual assignments, participation presentations, and formal examinations at the end of every subject. Students are expected to display experiential learning. The majority of work within the programme includes lectures, seminars, demonstration workshops, group and individual tutorials.

Admission requirements

  • Minimum 3 GCE ‘O’ levels credits with a pass in English Language

  • In the absence of equivalent qualifications, mature candidates (18 years and above) with relevant working experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
