Certificate in Casino Operations


Aims & Objectives

The Certificate course aims to equip students with elementary perspective into the operations and functions of the Casino games. The programme is suitable for those who are fresh graduate, without working experience. Participants would be exposed to basic concepts and basic skills of Casino operations through the introduction of basic table, cards and other related gaming skills, rules, procedures, calculation techniques, management skills, customer service & service excellence. Practical and realistic case studies and scenarios will also be used to build and increase their hands-on experience in Casino gaming.

Modules & Synopsis

Business Etiquette & Service Excellence

Business etiquette is important to portray a professional image of the organisation.  The first part of this subject will provide students with the concept of business etiquette and learn how to apply business etiquette rules in different business scenarios.  Student will learn the etiquette requirements from dressing, meeting, entertaining to handling ethical dilemmas and personal issues at work.  This part also addresses etiquette challenges when doing business in a multi-cultural environment.

Customer service is a cornerstone of any business in today’s customer-driven market. The second part of this subject will look at the value of customer service and how to implement customer-focus service strategy in an organisation.  It focuses on the need to develop pro-active approaches to service quality issues.

Casino Game Dealings I

This subject aims to equip students with a sound knowledge in casino gaming industry across the world. Students will be given deep insights to the history of casinos, the success case studies of established casino organizations as well as explore the opportunities and challenges within the gaming industry.  To engage students in understanding the basic practical nature of casino gaming, students will be exposed to various table games to learn on the basic rules and regulations of the games as well as to sharpen their minds and techniques in managing and operating the games efficiently. Students will gain understanding on the principles behind methods used to conduct games by casinos such as security measures, procedures and work etiquettes.

Casino Game Dealings II

This subject will introduce the students to the different aspects of card gaming in the casino. Students will be introduced to the background of card games and the rules pertaining to the different types of games. Student will also be exposed to the card game Baccarat and its importance in terms of popularity and high revenue contribution. Students will also be introduced to customer service skills and techniques when dealing with premium players. Students will also be exposed into identifying the different cheating techniques, scams and fraud and also prevention techniques and protection methods. Students will also be highlighted on the importance of grooming and presentation and customer service with regards to the Casino.

Casino Operations

This subject will allow the students to be familiar will the administrative functions of running the tables and card games. Students will also learning about the modus operandi of Casino and the different obstacles or difficulties that may occur in the industry. Skills such as disputes handling, estimating gaming demands will be instilled to ensure productivity as well as maintaining high table performance. Students will familiarize will the rules and regulations of running a casino and the importance of compliance.

Delivery Mode

This programme is available on both full-time & part-time mode. The course consists of 4 modules and can be completed in 3 months.

Assessment

Teaching, learning and assessment processes have been developed to ensure that students experience a variety of methods of learning and assessment. The programme is a combination of lectures and tutorials and assessments are through, individual assignments, participation presentations, and formal examinations at the end of every subject. Students are expected to display experiential learning. The majority of work within the programme includes lectures, seminars, demonstration workshops, group and individual tutorials.

Admission Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age; and
  • Possess a minimum of 3 GCE “N” Level Credits with a pass in English Language.
  • In the absence of equivalent qualifications, mature candidates (18 years and above) with relevant working experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
