Advanced Diploma in Game Design & Development


The Advanced Diploma is designed to prepare qualified and skilled workforce to meet the challenges of the fast growing gaming industry. There will be hands-on workshops that provide the learners with the skills to develop games that can be run on different platforms. The program is based on continuous assessment in terms of assignments, tests, projects and exams that will expose learners to various softwares that are currently used in gaming/animation industry.

Main Objectives of the Course

The course will provide participants opportunities to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, skills, qualities and other attributes in the following:-Principles and practices within Computer Games Technology; Areas of Computer Games Technology and its applications; Range of tools and techniques used in the development of Computer Games Technology; Write critiques and develop a major piece of work in the Computer Games Technology; Current research issues in the relevant aspects of Computer Games Technology and Developed research methodology skills.

Delivery Mode

The part-time Advanced Diploma in Game Design and Development consists of 9 modules and can be completed in 12 months.

Course Design & Content

  • Module 1: Human Computer Interaction for Games

    This module equips you to get an experience of designing a software solution for an unsolved problem in HCI.


  • Module 2: Architecture & Design of Gaming

    This module equips you with the concepts and design principles used in the construction of online environments.


  • Module 3: Games Mechanics

    This module equips you with the core concepts and techniques of real-time rendering and physical simulation as applied to the development of interactive games and simulation software.


  • Module 4: Game Design and Analysis

    This module equips you with a combined seminar/studio course in videogame theory, criticism, and design.


  • Module 5: The IQ of Serious Games

    This module equips you with the importance of serious games for non-entertainment and educational purposed.


  • Module 6: The Business of Gaming

    This module equips you with the essential read on advergaming, serious games, virtual worlds and other ways to combine games and business.


  • Module 7: OO Programming in C++

    This module equips you with the basic programming and software engineering skills; to learn to make effective use of an industrially relevant object-oriented programming language.


  • Module 8: Future of Digital Creativity & Multimedia

    This module equips you with the experience of multimedia production, software and hardware.


  • Module 9: Industrial Internship/Final Project

    The educational standard or learning outcomes expected of a student project will be identical to that achieved by a student on industrial attachment.


Assessment

Each module will be assessed either by a final Project with a combination of class participation, quizzes, assignments and/ or presentations.

Entry Requirements

Advanced Level

  • Minimum 2 GCE "A" Level Passes (including at least a C6 for General Paper or C6 for English as first language for GCE "O" Level) with or without working experience
  • Applicant who is unable to demonstrate the above mentioned English proficiency is required to take our ERCI's English Placement Test

Applicants should possess either of the following(s)

  • Diploma in Game Design and Development awarded by ERCI
  • Higher Nitec (2-year duration) from the Institute of Technical Education) in one of the following disciplines:
    • Information Technology
    • Wireless Technology

Candidates will be required to do Advanced Integrated Programme (AIP) if they possess a Diploma in other principles

  • Game Design
  • Game Animation
  • Game Programming
